Will he? Won't he? The nation was collectively gripped in a Favre like fever for 48 straight hours, wondering if Michael Strahan would unretire after only a few short months and return to save the New York Giants from a for-sure-locked-in 6-10 season. (End sarcasm. Except the 6-10 part.)
Well, he won't, via the anti-Mort, Jay Glazer at FOX Sports.
"This has been one of the toughest nights of my life," Strahan said from Greece. "But after long deliberation and throwing around a million scenarios in my head for the past day, I think it's just best if I stay retired.First of all, nice "scoop", Jay. (Seriously, Glazer's great at what he does, but has there ever been a bigger layup in the history of reporting?)
"I have gone back and forth on this because as a player you'll always want to play, you'll never lose that urge to be out there. But I could only do this if I could commit 100 percent, physically, mentally, emotionally and I can't do that. I've tried to convince myself and my body to give it one more year, but in the end I just don't think I could turn it on like I need to again."
Secondly, thank goodness. Because Lord knows we've already got enough unretired flip-floppers roaming New York. Besides, people just need to learn that it's just better to go out on top. Or with your leg broken under a pile of D'Bricks. Whatever.

Strahan should stay retired his big mouth belongs on tv.He is old and it is a young man sport. There wont be any more lay down sacks and the rest of the league is after the Giants. He would get hurt and he has become soft.

So being that you've already played at a level equaling that of Michael Strahan, you know what becoming soft is huh? I doubt it if you even know just how ignorant you sound right about now? Two words " World Champion "

you are a idiot "jones" I agree that Strahan should stay retired but to even insinuate that he couldn't handle it back in the league is just foolish. We are talking about one of the greatest DE to have ever put on the pads and played the position. Don't be so ignorant!

Jones, your not keeping up with anything are you!
Strahan is one of best overall DE to play the game!
He was dominant against the run and the pass.
The only soft thing around here is your brain!

It would have been good for the giants if he considered it as they blew any chance of getting a backup when they let Jason Taylor get picked up by the redskins. So if we end up 6-10, we did it to ourselves, let Michael enjoy his retirement up in the booth.

I think Michael Strahan is right. He has to do whatever he feels comfortable with. If he doesn't want to return to football, that's his decision. How the Giants will be without him remains to be seen but if Justin Tuck can pick up the slack that Strahan has left off, I think the Giants will be fine. No question about that.

First, Strahan soft?? Thats rich. But whether your a fan of his or not, I think the most impressive thing he's done was stay retired. He could have taken the Giants money, but he didn't. He could have gone half speed at practice,,nooobody wouldve said anything. And hey if he played only half the downs the first 4 games nobody wouldve blamed him. No, Strahan coulda slept walked his way this year and collected EIGHT MIL..he didnt. Strange to see a modern day athelete do the right thing.
